As you danced your heart out on the dance floor, you failed to notice the pairs of eyes on you. Lost in the rhythm of the music, you were totally oblivious. You were almost startled as your best friend grabbed your hand and pulled you off the platform you were dancing on. Furrowing your brow as you saw your spot taken by another girl.
"What's up?" you asked your friend once you were a little further away from the loud music.
"I'm gonna take off, Elizabeta said that she would take you home, so you better damn well make sure you let her take you home!" she scolded. She knew you had a bad habit of just leaving and not telling anyone because you didn't want to bother anyone. You sighed and smiled.
"Fine, I won't. So who are you leaving with?" Knowing your friend, she had met some hot guy and couldn't wait to get out of the club and into his pants.
"See that yumminess standing by the door?" she said, pointing to a tall dark haired man with a strange curl coming out of the right side of his head.
"He's Italian and we're gonna go get drinks." she smiled. Which you knew was code for going back to his place. You smiled at her and said,
"Ok, have fun and I want to hear all about it tomorrow!"
She hugged you and ran to meet the man at the door. You smiled as they left. You looked at your watch and realized it was after midnight. You looked back to where your group of friends was sitting and seeing them having such a good time you decided not to bother them. You knew Elizabeta would be more than happy to take you home, but she looked like she was having so much fun, and she didn't join everyone very often. You hadn't really brought a coat and had your ID and credit card in your bra, so you decided to just take off.
You were stopped by a tap on the shoulder, you turned around to see a tall, blond man standing there. One of the first things you noticed was his eyes, they were a beautiful emerald green. Contacts, you thought.
"May I buy you a drink?" he asked with a British accent.
"Actually, I was just about to leave." You smiled politely.
"But the night is still young, come, have a drink with me." He smiled as he put his arm around your shoulder and led you to the bar. You let him lead you, after all, it had been a while since anyone had tried to pick you up.
You got to the bar and he ordered drinks for both of you, not even bothering to ask what you would like.
"Here you are." he said, handing you shot glass filled with an amber liquid. You smelled it and recognized it as whiskey. You weren't really a fan of the stuff, but hell, if he was buying.
He toasted with you and downed his shot in one gulp, you followed and winced as the liquid burned your throat. He chuckled at you.
"I am Arthur." He smiled, taking your hand and kissing it. Bringing a touch of red to your cheeks and causing you to forget yourself for a moment.
"Oh, um I'm _______." you smiled.
"What a lovely name!" he said as he handed you the second drink, this time it was beer. He was a rather cheerful person, you noted. But there was something about him that kept your guard up. You took a drink and looked up at him. His smile made your flesh crawl. It wasn't the same cheery smile that he had greeted you with, there was something dark and sinister about it. As if noticing your uncomfortableness he changed his smile back to the cheery one he greeted you with. Something wasn't right. You decided you would at least finish your beer then excuse yourself to the restroom, but instead sneak out the door and head home.
He was asking you all kinds of questions about yourself, which you answered with half truths. You were too afraid to give him too much information about yourself. You were relieved once you finished your beer.
"Would you excuse me for a minute, I need to use the restroom." You said, getting off the bar stool.
"Hurry back, love, we're going to dance after this." He smiled, but this time it was the dark smile. You smiled and hurried to the restroom. You looked at the bar where he was sitting to see him staring at you, he smiled and waved, letting you know he was watching.
You walked in the door and stood there, trying to figure out how you were going to escape without him noticing you. The club was pretty crowded, you figured you could sneak out if you just kept your head down. A woman entered and almost bumped into you.
"Oh, excuse me." you said, moving aside, then you got an idea.
"Um, excuse me, but do you think you could look over at the bar and tell me if the man with blond messy hair is still there and if he's looking this way?"
"Sure, I guess?" she gave you an odd look as she peeked out the door and came back.
"He appears to be trying to get the bartender's attention." she said.
"Thank you." This was your chance. You ducked down and crept to the door. Once you made it outside you stood up straight and hurried to the corner, quickly turning it. You breathed easier knowing he wouldn't be following you because he probably thought you were still in the bathroom.
You were almost home when you started to feel a little apprehensive. You looked behind you, but there was no one there. You started to walk a little faster. Then all of a sudden the street lights began to flicker, not just one, but all of them. Even the building lights flickered before they went dark. The only light was from the full moon and the stars above. You started to run. All you had to do was make it to your apartment and you'd be safe. You could see the complex from where you were, the lights all lit.
Focusing on the lights ahead, you didn't see the man dart out of the alley and stick his arm out. You ran into it getting close-lined. You fell to the ground, coughing as you tried to get back up. The fall had managed to knock the wind out of you.
"It's not very polite to sneak out on a gentleman like that, especially when he was kind enough to buy you drinks." You recognized the accent and voice as Arthur.
